THE NORTH CARIBBEAN SIDE OF COSTA RICA
TORTUGUERO

What is the Caribbean Side of Costa Rica like?
The Caribbean side of Costa Rica is a beautiful region that is generally less developed and less touristy than the Pacific.
The area is hot, humid, and breathtakingly luscious.

About Tortuguero National Park and Village

Tortuguero is Costa Rica's third-most visited park. It's only accessible by boat or aircraft, which speaks volumes about this natural paradise's uniqueness.

With a unique canal network amid a breathtaking rainforest, it also offers (seasonally) the opportunity to watch the enormous green sea turtles.

The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including over 300 species of birds, three species of monkeys, two types of sloths, crocodiles, and many more types of animals.

One of the highlights of Tortuguero National Park is its intricate network of canals, which wind their way through the dense jungle and provide visitors with a unique perspective on the park's stunning flora and fauna.

Visitors can take a guided boat tour to explore the canals and spot exotic wildlife, or hike through the lush rainforest to see the park's incredible plants and animals up close.

Tortuguero village, located on the edge of the park, is a small and charming town that offers a glimpse into Costa Rica's rich culture and history.

Visitors can sample traditional Costa Rican cuisine, visit local shops and markets, and learn about the town's history and customs.

Some more facts

  • You can travel to Tortuguero by plane. It is possibly the easiest way to get there.
  • Tortuguero isn't a swimming beach. The sea is turbulent and has strong currents, and the sand has many flying insects due to turtle eggs. You can tan beside your hotel pool in warm tropical weather, but not on the beach.
  • Photographers should put moisture-absorbing packets in their camera bags.
  • After your trip, clean your lenses and camera. Fungi quickly inhabit equipment in humid climates.

As a conclusion

The North Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica is an amazing natural area. Remote and isolated is one of the places where you can see a lot of wildlife and luscious rainforests. Ask your Terranova Travel Design about the best time to go.
